20 injured in Honolulu bus crash

Seventeen patients were taken to hospitals by city EMS and three by AMR, with injuries ranging from minor to serious

HONOLULU 鈥 City officials say a total of 20 people were injured in this morning鈥檚 crash involving a city bus and a pickup truck on the H-1 eastbound near the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

According to the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, 17 patients were transported to hospitals by city EMS units and three more by American Medical Response. All patients sustained either minor or serious injuries, officials said.

About 30 people were on board the bus at the time of the collision. The crash just before 5:30 a.m. prompted a major emergency response that included multiple ambulances, supervisors and a mass casualty vehicle, city officials said.

鈥淭his was a major response for Honolulu EMS, 鈥 said Dr. Jim Ireland, director of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department. 鈥淥ur team worked quickly, compassionately, and professionally, and I was very proud of their efforts.鈥

All eastbound lanes on H-1 near the airport have reopened.
