Chief Chris Dell told that the grant will be used to purchase six mechanical chest-compression devices.

鈥淭he goal is to have one on each ambulance. It鈥檚 better for patients as far as quality and much safer for personnel,鈥 Dell said.

The funding will also allow the ambulance authority to purchase a heart monitor and defibrillator, which costs about $65,000. Dell said the device is an upgraded version of the agency鈥檚 current model and would be the first of seven it hopes to acquire.

The ambulance authority serves Bradford Woods, Franklin Park, McCandless, Marshall and Pine.
