Change of plea hearing scheduled in deaths of S.C. medic and N.M. trooper

A notice has been filed indicating that the man suspected in the deaths of a Florence County paramedic and a New Mexico State Police officer may change his plea

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M 鈥 The man accused of killing a Florence County paramedic and a New Mexico State Police officer may be preparing to change his plea in his federal case.

A notice was filed on Monday scheduling a 鈥渃hange of plea hearing鈥 for Jaremy Smith on Jan. 17, reported.

Smith faces federal charges of carjacking resulting in death and discharging a firearm during and about a violent crime in connection with the death of New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare.

He had previously pleaded not guilty to the federal charges.

The District of New Mexico declined to comment on the upcoming change of plea hearing.
